Pallet pickup questions, answered
Short, direct answers. Each links to the tool or guide with the detail.
- Will someone pick up pallets for free?
Often, yes, if they are standard 48x40 pallets in good condition and there are enough of them to be worth a trip. Pallet recyclers can repair and resell those, so collecting them pays for itself. Broken or odd-size pallets, small counts and piles mixed with trash usually cost money to remove.
- How much does pallet removal cost?
It depends on the count, the condition, how easy the pile is to reach, the distance and whether other debris is mixed in. National junk haulers advertise prices starting around $65 to $77 for small loads. A clean pile of good 48x40s may cost nothing. Use the triage to see which case yours is likely to be.
- How many pallets fit in a pickup truck?
Typically about 10 to 20 empty 48x40 pallets, depending on the bed length and how high they can safely be stacked. A 48x40 pallet lies flat between the wheel wells of most full-size beds, so a short bed takes one stack and an 8-foot bed takes two.
- How many pallets are in a full truckload?
About 400 to 600 empty 48x40 pallets on a 53-foot trailer. The range depends on pallet height and on whether they are stacked to the roof with a forklift.
- Do you take broken pallets?
Yes, as a paid haul-away. Where a recycler accepts them, broken pallets are repaired, taken apart for boards or ground, rather than landfilled.
- Do you take CHEP (blue) or PECO (red) pallets?
No. Blue CHEP and red PECO pallets, and others marked as someone's property, belong to the pooling company that rents them out. They are returned to that company, not hauled away or sold.
- Do I need a forklift?
No. A driver can hand-load a small pile. A forklift or a loading dock speeds up large pickups, so tell us your site access when you book.
- Can you pick up every week?
Yes. Request a recurring pickup: weekly, every two weeks or monthly. It works best for stores, restaurants, contractors and plants where pallets build up at a steady rate.
- How soon can you come?
It depends on your area and the size of the load. You choose up to three preferred windows when you book, and Repackify confirms a window after reviewing the request. There is no fixed same-day promise.
- Can I just put pallets out with the trash?
Usually not. Most municipal trash and bulk collection won't take pallets, or limits how many. Check your city's rules. Recycling is usually possible instead: pallet recyclers repair and resell good pallets and grind the rest.
- Do you pick up from homes?
Yes, for piles worth a trip. Tell us the count when you book and Repackify will say whether a pickup makes sense. A few pallets from a move or a delivery are often easier to give away locally or drop at a recycler.
